July 11th, 2025 (LOS ANGELES, CA) – Indie rock duo Long A releases their anticipated debut LP, It’s About To Start, on Industry Houseplant Records. The album features a captivating collection of tracks, including three previously released singles that offered a glimpse into the duo’s expansive sound.
Among the standout singles are “Asking For A Friend” featuring the distinctive sound of Gothic Tropic, “Dissolve” which showcases the iconic vocals of Tanya Donelly (Belly, Breeders, Throwing Muses), and “It’s Hard To Be A Person,” mixed by acclaimed producer Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie, Ra Ra Riot, Petey USA). The spirit of collaboration continues throughout the LP. The indie-pop gem “Extraordinary” features Australian indie singer Ben Lee, while “Underwater” is a bright power-pop anthem graced by the vocals of Tom Bright, a young UK-based singer-songwriter with co-signs from rock legends Mick Jones (The Clash) and Matt Johnson (The The). Another high-point on the record is the guitar-heavy, propulsive anthem “The Blue Nile,” a clear ode to the renowned Scottish band. Elsewhere, songs like “Urgency,” “Still Outside,” and “Screen Time” offer crashing meditations on mental health. The seemingly gentle “Breaking Apart” shows the band at their most versatile, as hushed verses give way to a dramatic, post-rock flight. Long A was assisted in the recording and mixing of the album by long-time friend Dan Long (Local Natives, Spiral Stairs). The album was mastered by Al Isler and Daniel Rowland.
The genesis of Long A occurred while Richard Jankovich and Albert Kurniawan were touring with their previous band, Big Mother Gig. Their 2021 LP, Gusto, garnered critical acclaim from Stereogum, SPIN, BrooklynVegan and NPR, leading to a placement on ABC‘s The Rookie, airplay on SiriusXM and inclusion in editorial playlists on Spotify, Apple and Amazon Music. Subsequently, the four-piece band was booked for a US tour supporting Black Joe Lewis. However, just weeks before the tour, two band members exited, prompting Jankovich and Kurniawan to adapt their set into a “Power Duo” format, utilizing a laptop to fill out their sound. The resulting tour, playing to sold-out venues across America, proved a resounding success. This experience solidified their new approach and laid the groundwork for Long A.
